Ever since Oculus Rift appeared on Kickstarter in 2012, I’ve become more and more intrigued by the notion that you could experience games on a wholly different, totally immersive level. While the virtual reality pioneer and it’s later sale to Facebook was not uncontroversial, it really did help kickstart the development of VR and made VR a thing.
As time went by, I kept an eye on the developments in the industry with the clear wish to obtain a headset myself should the technology overcome it’s initial hiccups and reach a certain level of maturity. It’s 2017 as of now and we might finally be there.
So what are my options? In the high-end device market, there are three options, afaik:
- the aforementioned Oculus Rift
- Playstation VR (an add-on for PS 4 which I luckily own)
- HTC Vive
I need to do a little more digging before I make up my mind, considering the substantial investment that is needed to acquire one. But maybe, just maybe it’ll be worth it as there are some interesting VR focused titles out already. Until then, I’ll have to be content with what I have. The Witcher 3, here I come…
